These are the official Thai public holidays:
- April 13 — Maha Songkran Day (National holiday)
- April 14 — Wan Nao (Family day)
- April 15 — Wan Payawan (New Year's Day)
But the real festival is longer than 3 days.

While April 13 is the official start, many events begin earlier:

How Long Does Songkran Last?
Officially: 3 days (April 13–15)
Practically: 5–7 days depending on the city
- Bangkok: April 10–15 (6 days of events)
- Chiang Mai: April 13–15 (3 intense days)
- Pattaya: April 15–19 (Wan Lai Festival extends it)
What Time Does Songkran Start?
There's no official "start time" — it depends on where you are:
- Temple ceremonies: 6–8am
- Street water fights: Start around 10am–noon, peak 1pm–5pm
- Music festivals: Gates typically open 2pm, music until midnight or later
- After-parties: Midnight–5am at clubs
Pro tip: The water stops at sunset in most areas (around 6:30pm), but Silom and Khao San keep going until 10pm+.
When is Songkran in Pattaya?
Pattaya has its own extension called Wan Lai Festival, running April 15–19. Many people go to Bangkok for the main days (13–15) and then head to Pattaya for the beach continuation.
The Pattaya celebration centers on Beach Road and Walking Street, with water fights, concerts, and the famous Wan Lai parade.
